This project will develop an approach to mapping seaweed production areas using satellite imagery to monitor sea use change. Using mixed methods, this project will :
(1) develop computer vision and machine-learning tools for analysis of satellite imagery to monitor seaweed production;
(2) undertake ‘ground-truthing’ of production estimates using oceanographic measurements and farm production diaries in three case study locations (in South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara and Maluku); and
(3) undertake qualitative social research to explore community perceptions of climate variability and their resilience strategies to identify interventions. |
